YOUTH SOCCER (U13+)

From age 13, players officially move on from the Club Development Centre (U4 to U12) and join a new structure built around forming dedicated teams.

OUR APPROACH

Building excellence.

Our youth program is a pivotal stage in our young athletes’ journey. Designed for players U13 and up, it offers a structured, competitive and stimulating environment where athletes push their limits while continuing to develop their technical, tactical and personal skills.

Our approach follows Canada Soccer’s Long-Term Player Development (LTPD) model, a nationally recognized framework that lets players progress according to their profile, their pace and their personal goals.

OUR PROGRAMS

Two ways to play U13+ soccer.

U13+ LOCAL LEAGUE

The joy of the game

Our U13+ House League program lets players keep playing soccer in a fun, inclusive and community-focused environment. While many players in this age group take part in competitive leagues such as PLSJQ, LDP, LDIR or LR, the House League gives everyone who wants to play soccer a place in the club.

Players benefit from:

Weekly games in a positive environment
Teams built to ensure balanced competition
The chance to play with friends and players from the community
A welcoming environment for every experience level
Structured games and organized teams

The U13+ House League program focuses on the social and recreational side of soccer.

Unlike competitive teams, no tryout is required: players simply register and play.

Performance and competition

The U13+ level marks the move to a more structured and competitive environment. At AS Laval, it includes our High Performance pathway (PLSJQ and LDP) for our most advanced players, as well as the LDIR and LR levels for athletes who want to keep playing competitive soccer and progress in a serious and motivating setting.

The competitive pathway includes:

PLSJQ: the highest youth level in Quebec
LDP: the Provincial Development League
LDIR: competition between regions
LR: competitive soccer, close to home
Tryouts every year to build the teams

The High Performance program is for players who show advanced potential and a real drive to improve. This pathway offers a demanding environment, higher standards and a structured development plan. In Quebec, youth high-performance soccer runs mainly through the PLSJQ and the LDP, which provide a high-level, development-focused provincial platform.

THE COMPETITIVE LEVELS

A level for every player.

Every level is by selection and aims to place each player in the right environment, based on their profile, development pace and goals.

PLSJQ

Quebec Premier Youth Soccer League

The Première Ligue de Soccer Juvénile du Québec (PLSJQ) is a high-level youth soccer league, offering a competitive provincial structure in several age groups (often U13+). It is the pinnacle of youth soccer in Quebec and brings the best talent together in a demanding environment.

Who it’s for: players with excellent technical quality, strong game intelligence, a competitive spirit and a high level of commitment.

LDP

Provincial Development League

The Ligue de Développement Provinciale (LDP) is a league focused on developing young talent in a competitive setting, with a clear priority on progression and quality coaching. It is an important step for players aiming for the highest provincial level.

Who it’s for: fast-progressing players, ready to compete in a structured provincial environment.

LDIR

Interregional League

The LDIR, or interregional league, brings together teams from different regions of Quebec. It offers a higher competitive level than local and regional leagues, giving players good challenges and room to progress in a structured environment, while remaining below the elite provincial levels.

Who it’s for: players who want a serious competitive setting and who may, in the medium term, aim for the LDP or the PLSJQ.

LR

Regional League

The LR (Ligue Régionale) offers a structured competitive environment within the regional organization. It’s a great option for players who want to keep improving, compete regularly and enjoy a well-supervised season while balancing school, other sports or personal goals.

Who it’s for: committed players who want competitive soccer and development, even if they aren’t (yet) on the High Performance teams.

TRYOUTS

How to join a competitive team.

Tryouts are held every year to set the rosters of the PLSJQ, LDP, LDIR and LR teams.

PLSJQ and LDP: tryouts take place once a year, in October. All AS Laval players as well as players from other clubs can take part. Players from outside AS Laval must fill out a form and register before taking part.

LDIR and LR: tryouts take place once a year, in April. Players affiliated with AS Laval during the previous summer season, players living in AS Laval’s territory, and players not affiliated with any club are eligible.

LL: there are no tryouts. LL teams are formed randomly every summer. LL registration includes games only. Teams are registered in the regional league (ARS Laval) and may practise, at the discretion of each coach and team.
